Tatum competed in her 1st 70.3 mile triathlon last Sunday (9/11/11). She did an amazing job! Revolution 3, who put on the event at Cedar Point Amusement Park, encouraged family members to run down the final chute with their loved one. Seeing the girls run down towards the finish line with Tatum was quite the sight!

The Silly Putty Incident

I think that the title says it all... but the video and photographic evidence make it that much better. This happened to us in the middle of a 10 hour drive back home and it detoured us in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania on a 90 plus degree day. This incident was both frustrating and hilarious as Tatum and I could not stop laughing, even as the girls were upset. I am positive that we will be talking about this with the girls the rest of their lives...

As you can see, Nadia is in some pain from trying to pull the silly putty out of her ponytail. Sonia though...I don't think that she cared that much. So after trying baby oil, hand sanitizer and water, the only remedy was a pair of scissors. End product:

There is nothing in this photo to reference size, but the wad on the left (Nadia's) was about the size of a golfball. Needless to say, there will be no more Silly Putty in this household for the next few years...

We headed downtown today for what we hope becomes an annual tradition in this household, the 500 Rookie Run. This year was Sonia's first and she had a blast running up and down the block with Tatum. Nadia also got out to a quick start before slipping on the wet pavement. Ever the fighter, she got right up and finished out the run. She definitely has that same look of determination as her mother...

Such a fantastic spring weather day yesterday (72 deg). Today, on the other hand, 40...and tomorrow a forecast of snow. Ugh. So we took advantage of the (sometimes) warm spring weather and visited the animals at the zoo.
By the way, Tatum decided to dress the girls in yellow (so I could spot them easier when I inevitably lost one). Thanks Tatum!

We celebrated Sonia's 3rd birthday yesterday amongst friends and family. Sonia was super excited all day and her attention seemed to jump from one toy to another and from one friend to another. When it came time to sing "Happy Birthday" and cut the cake though...she had laser-like focus.

Literally chilling. The high was around 45 F for the day. After an emergency purchase for Disney ski caps (thanks Walt, for having winter Minnie Mouse accessories readily available) we were good to go. Special thanks to Oma and Abuelo for accompanying us and letting us use some pre 1990 passes that they still had on hand. The girls had a great time all day which culminated in a passed-out Sonia and a somber Nadia, not knowing what she wanted to do next, only knowing that going home wasn't the right choice.

Post-Walk Celebration with Team Sesenta for Lijs after their 60 mile trek through Minneapolis and St.Paul. (Starting Left: Michelle Gezo, Geraldine Perez, Tatum Perez, Hans Meijer) I can't tell you how proud of them I am of them for participating in this event. They encountered blisters, heat rash, achy feet and 90 degree heat, but made it all the way through! The team raised over $17,500!! They all said that it was the toughest thing they've ever had to do, but what a way to bring awareness and fund-raising for this horrible disease. By the way, the signs are courtesy of Alexia and Lia (Hans' wife and daughter), Nadia and Sonia.

Here is a pic of Team Sesenta For Lijs at the end of day one of the 3-Day Walk for the Cure. It has been a rough go for them, but I can't tell you how awesome they have all done. Their feet are all battered and bruised, and according to Tatum it has been the "most mentally and physically challenging thing she's ever done." But they are almost done. Tomorrow at 4:00pm they will have completed their 60th mile. They are definitely walking for a purpose and have raised almost $17,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I'm so proud of Geraldine for coordinating and leading the team, and of her teammates Tatum, Hans and Michelle.

Tatum and I generally look forward to Friday nights as our date night. Sometimes that means relaxing at home, sometimes it means dinner and a movie (By the way, Inception.. was... awesome!) But we aren't the only ones to look forward to date night. Nadia and Sonia get quite a few "date nights" with Nana and Papaw. They always look forward to it because they get to do new and crazy stuff, like jumping on a mini trampoline (hello 80's exercise craze) or watching the latest and greatest Disney movie. Anyways, we all are grateful here at the Perez Household for these date nights. I like to think that it helps us keep our sanity. My wife never ceases to amaze me. She works, takes care of three kids (me included) and a dog, always has the house clean enough for a Presidential visit and still finds me funny...sometimes. On top of all this she has been training for a sprint triathlon, her second. Well, she competed in the Eagle Creek Sprint Tri over the weekend and managed to place second on her age group. Awesome! Pretty amazing considering I was spent just from lugging the girls and my backpack around while Tatum competed. There is no video this time around (I completely forgot) but I did manage to get some pics. One day maybe I'll join her...it did look pretty fun.

500 Festival Rookie Run

Nadia participaed in her first run today in downtown Indy by Monument Circle. She has been pretty excited for the last couple of weeks to be able to "run like mami". It was a cut little event, there were several groups in each age category and as you can see below, Nadia and her running partner Carson led the pack of kids down and around the equivalent of two street blocks.

Tatum and I had a great time in Seattle/Vancouver and even greater company in Breanne and James. We did a lot of sightseeing, a lot of eating and even caught a David Gray concert in between. Here are some of my favorite shots from last week.
